R.S.S. Earhart Incident

When IsoChem accidentally targets and destroys a colony ship in the outer rim, clamors for tighter corporate control echo throughout the republic. When no accountability is held, a radical partisan group in the outer rim sabotages several Isotope-10 mining rigs owned by several of the megacorporations from the Core Worlds.
This leads to republican troops being deployed around the outer rim for "security purposes".
