First contact with Onatach

The first contact with this species went very badly, a Republican vessel was scanning the Bax system when it came across as an outpost. Probably out of fear since the Republic was the first contact with an alien species for the onatachs, they opened fire on the Republican science vessel, which fled. A Navy flotilla was then sent to investigate the same coordinates where military reinforcements had also been sent. A face-off ensued that almost degenerated into a battle when an accidental shot was fired by the Republic, but the composure of the onatacth officers who decided to engage in discussion prevented this. The diplomatic personnel of the two states were then sent and means of communication were put in place quickly enough to begin negotiations. Because of this whole situation, the two belligerents were left with a certain resentment and mistrust which complicated the talks. In the end, only communication channels were set up, but the two nations refused access to their respective territories after having determined approximately their common border. Indeed, both were fearful of their potential and they did not wish to bolster the other's economic power with trade. As a matter of fact, the position of the two belligerents will inevitably lead them to a rivalry in the struggle for influence within the galaxy. The latter burst into the open after the War of the Prophets.
