Whitestone is home to the Whitebeard mountain dwarf clan. They are secretive, coming to Mount Hotenow in the Neverwinter Woods to mine minerals & metals depleted on their asteroids. They have a pact with the druidcal demigoddess who guards the woods, the Lady of the Woods.
The clan worships Dumathoin, Keeper of Secrets under the Mountain; they sail small mining ships, modified galleons really, 40 tons and statted out and with deckplans in the adventure. The ships are powered with minor helms manned by fighter/priests of Dumathoin. The use of ships that look like terrestrial sailing ships is smart. I've mentioned often that obvious flying ships should attract thieves like a wounded wildebeest draws hyenas. Basically, ships that flaunt their ability to fly should be the subject of near constant hijacking and piracy.
The text says Whitestone is a huge dwarven asteroid city carved from a single white asteroid to look like a long-bearded and helmed dwarven warrior. The ships fly into his mouth and dock at a lake therein.
The players are met by 'huge dwarven warships', so in theory, Whitestone's fleet includes several dwarven citadels as well as the mining ships (which most likely number fewer then a dozen).
The clan is led by King Gundulph Whitebeard VII, who is very old and grateful for aid to his people, and loves to hear tales of adventure.

I've started to read the article. I'm pretty sure it is just a head, rather than the entire body.

If the main colony is a gigantic head, it makes sense to have some dwarven citadels. Presumably, they would have been built from asteroids in the Tears of Selûne (unless the Whitebeard Clan are supposed to have come from another location in Wildspace).
beyond the ships used for seasonal mining job on Toril and trading with a rastipede colony they not as much have a fleet
