Oasis Gorilla

The oasis gorilla is a semi-nomadic species of ape native to Sabiralsahra. They are territorial and sometimes compete with even humans for access to oases. While primarily herbivorous, they are very territorial once they have settled.   In battle, they use their huge fists and strong bite to crush their foes. They are at their most dangerous when they have territory to guard, as they will fight to the death to hold their ground. But while migrating, they are less eager to fight and more likely to retreat from a battle.

Ecology and Habitats

As the name implies, oasis gorillas are most at home in Sabiralsahra's oases. They primarily live off the fruit and greens that are so plentiful in those lush spots, and by eating them help spread the seeds. Nomadic troops prefer to stick to rocky or mountainous regions with plenty of shade, living off whatever they can scavenge or hunt.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Oasis gorillas are omnivores. They have a preferance for fruit, but will also eat bugs or small animals. Nomadic troops are especially prone to carnivorous behaviour.

Behaviour

Oasis gorillas are territorial and protective of their oasis nesting sites. If food starts running low, which is not uncommon when the troops grow, they become nomadic, migrating to a new oasis. During these migrations, they are more wary and careful, less prone to aggression but very dangerous if provoked.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Oasis gorillas live in troops led by an older male, often referred to as a silverback due to their changing fur colour. While migrating, the troop becomes much more rigid, with the leader enforcing much stricter order. During these periods, other gorillas are seen more as rivals for ressources than potential troopmates.
