Paradise Bird

The paradise bird is a beautiful avian common to many jungles or similar warm forests. They are quite a common sight, using their well-developed eyes to quickly scan the woodland for sustenance.   Against anything larger than your average ant, paradise birds prefers fight over flight. If forced to engage, they will try to peck at the offender, but will flee at the first opportunity.

Anatomy

Paradise birds are small avian animals with very colorful feathers. They vary in coloration between individuals, a variety of green, red, blue, yellow and occasionally other colors. They have a short, slightly curved beak.

Females of the species tend to have more muted colors and less large decorative feathers.

Genetics and Reproduction

Male paradise birds display themselves in elaborate courtship dances, combined with the giving of gifts to entice females to select them as mates. Paradise birds are not monogamous and will often change partners from year to year. Eggs are laid in clutches of five to seven soon after and then hatch in twenty to thirty cycles.

Growth Rate & Stages

Chicks are born defenseless and reliant on their parents, who will feed them semi-digested matter. The chicks quickly grow over the next twenty to thirty cycles and then leave the nest.

Paradise birds congregate in warmer climates with dense vegetation, such as jungles. Due to their generalist diet, they contribute both to the spread of fruit growing plants and keeping the population of insects down.
