Pickaxe

The pickaxe is a dwarven tool designed to also function as a weapon. Its origins lies with dwarven lumberjacks and miners. Dwarf practicality dictates that it is less efficient to have to exchange a tool for a weapon than having one that functions as both. And miners and lumberjacks, working on the edges of dwarven settlements, were considered the most likely to suffer attacks from wild beasts or invading enemies. Therefore, their tools were designed so that it could easily be wielded in battle.   This eventually lead to the pickaxe, which as the name indicates combined the feature of both, on side sporting the long curved pick and the other the flat sharp axehead. This design became a standard weapon for dwarven soldiers, for whom the weapon doubled as a practical tool. It is built to last during prolonged engagements and either side can deliver vicious blows. It is also designed to be easily swung, making it more likely that a given dwarf can catch multiple targets with one swipe.
