Shotshield
One of the problems with many ranged weapons, including the ever more popular guns, is that they often requires two hands, at least according to goblins. This often prevent the use of shield for extra protection and means that precious seconds are lost switching to a different weapon should an enemy get close. The shotshield was their answer to that.
Combining features of the shotgun and the shield, this tool combines offence and defense into one, while freeing up a hand for another weapon. It is covered in trigger plates that, when struck, activates a trigger which fires a shell, hopefully hitting the attacker. Some would argue this means it only works against opponents in melee and thus defeats the point of a ranged weapon, but this is usually countered with that the shield can be triggered by incoming projectiles. Or activated manually with a good tap.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The shield's surface incorporate pressure plate linked to the firing mechanism. When the plates experience impact, the loaded shells are fired.
Manufacturing process
Usually, it passes through the hands of at least three different smiths, though some have experience neough in multiple discipline to be able to forge a shotshield on their won.
