The Shimmering Mirage
For most travellers coming to Riscivar, be it for a longer stay or just passing through, The Shimmering Mirage is the place to stay. This inn caters to the many and varied people who come through, while also offering a watering hole for the locals to visit. It is usually at the centre of attentions and the best ways for the inhabitants of Riscivar to get news of the outside world. Many merchants also drops by and more than a few deals are made over a good meal and a game of chance.
The Shimmering Mirage maintains its sterling reputation through a mixture of good service and good security. Brawling is not accepted and ruffians quickly find that the inn's security are more than capable of throwing down themselves if their warnings are not acknowledged. Most people know better than to try to start a fight, but when alcohol flows and tempers flare, stupid decisions are occasionally made. Still, an apology while sober is usually enough to regain access.
Purpose / Function
The Shimmering Mirage is a mixed species tavern, aiming to cater to a wide variety of travellers who come through the town of Riscivar.
Architecture
The Shimmering Mirage uses a mixture of sandstone blocks, most taken from the nearby ruins, and wood imported from Wahah. The wood is mostly used for the upper floors, with the ground floor being composed of more sandstone. A few dramatic figurines found in the ruins, too big to easily transport but too notable to just leave, have been placed in niches and on perches both inside and outside.
Defenses
Doors of solid wood with bars can deny entry. Heavy shudders protect the windows, though more often used against sandstorms than assailants.
History
In 2411 AIT, the movements of the sand uncovered the lost jinn city of Riscivar. It was soon noted by local nomads and news spread quickly from there. As Riscivar was far away from the more common caravan routes, enterprising treasure hunters quickly realised that an at least semi-permanent camp would be set up. This in turn grabbed the attention of many local merchants, who quickly took note of the fact that, while the city wasn't near any common caravan route, it would make for a perfect stop on the otherwise problematically long route between Wahah and the coastal fisher towns close to Rishinile. Knowing that such a new route would be lucrative, they invested in the venture.
This attention quickly drew even more eyes, including one Luwai el-Abdalla. Well aware of the sort of people the site would attract, he decided to build an inn to cater to them. His caravan first journeyed to Wahah, where he bought plenty of lumber and easily preserved food and drinks, before journeying to the ruins site, where he founded The Shimmering Mirage.
Since then, the tavern has been a permanent fixture of the small city that gres out of the ruins of Riscivar. It has changed hands a number of times, passing from owner to owner, with the latest being one Aabid el-Matin. It received a major economic boost when the famed oracles of ruin moved into town in 2590, their lineage becoming a permanent fixture of the town and another reason why people from all over would make the journey.
Tourism
The Shimmering Mirage is known as the place to stay if one visits Riscivar. All kinds of people come by, from traders and caravaneers making the treck across the sand of the Sahran desert, Qawramalian nomads making a stop to refill their supplies, treasure hunters visiting to dig through the ruins for magical curios and items of value and petitioners wishing to visit the oracle of ruin, to know of what potential dooms lie in their future.
A few other inns have sprung up over the years, but The Shimmering Mirage remains the most famous, as the establishment have kept up a high level of quality and caters to a wide range of species, both in room layout and food offered.
