The Yaxi'Jun'Ra

The Yaxi'Jun'Ra is a myth told by all the sand tribes of the Vu'ko'Kita, and it speaks of a creature that lives in the desert, a soulless shadow entity that seeks out brash and quick-tempered Jun and poisons their mind, infects them with a hatred for their people, a hatred for themselves it torments them until they leave their clan, walk out into the Vu'Ko'tin and wait to die, at this point the Jun is consumed by the Yaxi'Jun'Ra leaving only its shadow, which without a soul begins to wonder the desert as a new Yaxi'Jun'Ra.   The full myth tells the tale of a young man who is haunted by the Yaxi'Jun'Ra for many months as he falls deeper and deeper into a pit of self-loathing and despair, during this time his friends and family blame him for his actions and only serve to tighten the grip that the shadow has on him. At the end of the story, the clan leader chastises those closer to him for their lack of compassion and explains that love and care are the only things that can free a Jun from the Yaxi'Jun'Ra.

Historical Basis

Yaxi'Jun'Ra, translated literally means Never'Elf'Element, but Jun'Ra alone is the soul or spirit, similarly, a Yaxi'Jun is a Never Elf or traitor. Yaxi'Jun'Ra, therefore, means Traitor Spirit.   The Myth comes from a Sand madness that on rare occasions can grip a Jun, this myth is less a cautionary tale and more a guide for what to look out for, so as to help the individual inflicted.

Spread

All the tribes of the Vu'Ko'Kita know the tale of the Yaxi'Jun'Ra, it s a story told to children as a way of teaching kindness and the consequences of not valuing each member of the clan.

Variations & Mutation

Despite the age of the story, it has remained shockingly unchanged for several generations. Even across the clans, the story is at its core the same, the clan in the story may change usually to the same one of the teller. But otherwise, it has withstood the test of time.
