Cervitaur

The herd of deerfolk cautiously approached our travel group, leaping from their ledge down to our relative ground level. At the head of the group stood a tall buck with antlers decorated in paint and hanging horn-rings. He gesticulated at the interpreter of our group, who hurriedly gestured back. After a few moments, the leader of the deerfolk furrowed his brow, before making what looked to be an obscene gesture at the interpreter. He walked away, gesturing his group to follow him.   I asked what just happened. The interpreter replied, "I asked if his tribe would be willing to carry us to our next destination." I asked what his reply was. "Believe me MakoVe, you don't want to know."

The Cervitaurs are a dogged people, surviving in the harsh terrain of The Shatterlands . Having come to this land sometime in the 4th era, these people travel from island to island worshipping the ruins and scavenging their tools and art. In between these ruins they hunt, gather, dance, and live full lives taking in the splendor of their beautiful yet dangerous home.   Cervitaurs are notable mostly for their excellent, almost encyclopedic knowledge of the ruins in their local area. This stems from deep-seated religious worship of the ruins. The Cervitaur culture sees each ruin, statue, and city as divine and possessing a living spirit. Due to this, they have assigned each ruin a Tutelary deity, and consider exploring these ruins and learning everything about these ruins akin to directly communing with a deity.   Guild Guides for the Quester's Travel Guild often consult with roaming Cervitaur tribes when exploring new ruins or searching for specific artifacts. Although Cervitaurs are usually happy to provide directions or even guidance, they heavily frown upon non-cervitaurs taking artifacts or relics from the ruins. This is usually seen as "disrupting" the spirit that lives within, and they believe that only the rituals that Cervitaur Elder perform can prevent disruption.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Beauty in Cervitaur culture relies on the idea of being "statuesque". Due to Cervitaur's near lack of the concept of gender, these beauty ideals apply to all sexes of Cervitaur equally.    Generally, Cervitaurs aim to emulate the Sunfey statues and art that dot the Shatterlands. This ranged from trying to maintain stoic expressions to decorating their horns and faces in similar ways as Sunfey. Some paint their body with art taken from ruins they have explored.

I actually adore the section on beauty ideals! The idea of trying to emulate statues/art is such a neat concept!
