Angerland

Angerland is a breakway region of the Kingdom of Kilth, styling itself as the free and independent Kingdom of Angerland. Having secured the support of the Carac Confederacy to the south, the five dukes of Angerland declared the Kingdom of Angerland on the 7th of April in 498. Though the king of Kilth did not accept this declaration, the conflict with Kilth was nominal and relatively bloodless as the armies of Kilth were drained by wars in the east and the south.   Angerland has inherited much of the organization of the Kingdom of Kilth, with dukes ruling over provinces, with direct rule over areas of land provided by elder town councils or hereditary lords. However, Angerland currently has no king as the five dukes have not agreed on who should be crowned. Currently, Angerland is a virtual vassal of the southern Ilums of the Carac Confederacy, being a weak and fledgling state unable to resists the requests of their only ally. However, many local lords and even one duke attempt to resist this state of affairs.    Approximate area of Angerland.

History

The history of Angerland until the last 150 years is one of scattered tribes of farmers and reindeer-herders, petty kingdoms, and small city states. Conquered by the Kingdom of Kilth, the land south of the Bearmen Mountains was divided into provinces and largely awarded to victorious Kilthian commanders and local collaborators of the dwarven invaders. Since then, Kilthian culture and mode of rule has spread in Angerland, though not without acrimony.   Used as a source of manpower for the Kilthian armies, the demands of the eastern dragonwars of the last decades angered both lord and common man, and the dukes of Angerland began to conspire against their king in the east. Succeeding in their bid for independence, Angerland became a kingdom in its own right, though one without a king as the five dukes have found that their visions have less in common than they might have hoped. The dwarven subjects of the easternmost duchy of Tavaria attempted to secede back to the King of Kilth a mere ten years ago, but their attempt was quashed.   Today, Angerland is politically dependent on their southern neighbor, and their foreign trade has been effectively monopolized by them.
