Ondhag
The capital of the Kingdom of Kilth, Ondhag has been settled for close to a thousand years, and has been the center of Kilthian civilization for most of its existence. A city of dwarves, the city has been built on the banks of the Borun river, where the hilly landscapes of the Kilthian mountainsides feed the waters that ultimately drain into the Great Bay.
The most populous city of the Kilthian dwarves as well as the seat of House Arkäntall, the city has an imposing keep housing the royal family, and is walled into the mountainside. Many of its formidable defenses were built after the Taronian sack of the city over 600 years ago, and today Ondhag would be difficult to conquer indeed, as its high walls repel any invaders and hidden mountain passes could even be used to supply the city. However, since the Taronians, none have tried.
The city is fed mainly by the farmland carved into the hillsides by the dwarves' earthwork and terrace farming techniques. Living on the river also provides Ondhag with a modest fishing industry as well as a way to get its goods out into the world.
Located as far to the north as it is, Ondhag is a great city and it is said that none other than the dwarves could or would build it in such an inhospitable location.
Demographics
Most of the population of Ondhag are Kilthian dwarves, though there is a human minority residing in the city. Despite being the capital of Kilth, not many foreigners find their way to Ondhag as it is not Kilth's principal trade port and is located some ways inland.
Ondhag houses the royal court, but also has a significant mining and metalworking industry, and steel is the principal trade good of the city.
Government
Ondhag is administered directly by the Arkäntalls and belongs to the royal house's extensive holdings within the country. However, being a large city, Ondhag also has a civil administration appointed by the crown that handles the day-to-day business of running the city. This administration is drawn from a mixture of literate professionals, clergy of the Stone God, and minor nobility in Arkäntall's court.
