Soterum
An old garrison town of the senatorial legions in southern Rovs, Soterum is currently the northernmost reach of the Palatine's control, for those areas further north are in revolt. Occupied since 510 by an Atransian legion, the town was bloodlessly taken over by the Palatines in a confusing series of events that ended with the town militia surrendering but the lord Valenti Hagin being left in post.
The town has a large permanent base of the Palatine legion, which takes up a solid third of the town's footprint. The lord's manor is also located in town, along with a market. Though a town of only some thousands, Soterum has been something of a melting pot in the past due to the frequent movements of soldiers through the town. The economy of the town has historically mostly served the garrison, and in addition to the produce of the nearby farms the town has also been a blacksmithing center. Though happy to smith swords for the forces of the Rada in the two years the town was under rebel control, they have once more found themselves serving the Palatine legion.
History
Rovsans have settled around Soterum since time immemorial, and at least a village has likely existed on the site for hundreds if not over a thousand years. The site became a town around the 53rd Year of the Prophet, when a permanent base of the senatorial legions was established there. An economy based mainly around the garrison camp began to grow, turning the village into a town.
The town has since waxed and waned in importance, as the Palatine frontier has extended far further at times than Soterum. In those times, the empire did bring a measure of prosperity to the region, but Soterum was mainly used as a waystation by the Palatine armies. Nevertheless, the town has persisted.
Though rumblings of revolt had already been there, in 507 much of Rovs rose up in revolt against the waning Palatine empire. The lord Valenti Hagin initially threw in with the Rada, but did not much clash with the legions when they came to restore order years later. In 510, the legions occupied Soterum, but left Valenti in post, who rules to this day.
I really like the amount of history you've given this village. I can just picture it.
