Becon's Crossing

Description:
Becon's Crossing is a large, walled merchant city on the crossroads between the Thurim Citadels and the Great Kingdom, in the foothills of the Greater Diahrzab region of the Barrier Mountians. A major center of trade for the entire region, the city is centrally located between Barrelbur and Parchet, where the East-West Merchant Road crosses both the North Fork River and the Kingdom Road. The population is primarily made up of Vainites from the Great Kingdom, with a large subpopulation of Thurim merchants and craftsmen.   The name Becon's Crossing is a direct translation of the older Duergun name "D'Beken Thor," which originally referred to a key river crossing-point on the North Fork of the Bellrow River. The old river bridge that originally stood here was built by the duergun Thegn Beken the Journeyman, who founded the city in the days when the Thurim Citadels of the Barrier Mountains were first constructed, in the Age of Nations.   With the expansion of the Vainite "Great Kingdom" and the construction of the Vainite castle city of Parchet in 2340 SR, D'Beken Thor became a natural center-point for commerce and trade between the two cultures. In April of 2417 SR, the Common Defense Pact between Vainite and Düergun Realms was signed in D'Beken Thor. Though previously it had always been a Thurim settlement, the city peacefully changed hands later in the Days of Exile (c. 2600 SR), effectively becoming the southernmost outpost of the Great Kingdom before one crossed into Duergun territory. It was at that time the city took on the Vainite name of "Becon's Crossing."   During the War of the Witch (c. 3230-3240 SR), Becon's Crossing became home of many refugees from Castle of Parchet to the east. After the fall of Parchet in 3234 SR, for the next several years the battlefront of the war stood at the doorstep of Becon's Crossing, as the opposing armies of the east and west remained at a stalemate.   Colors: Ebony & Gold
