Elemental Spirits
Stoichea (Elemental Spirits) are lesser spirits of pure energy (air and fire) who were sent into the world as servants of God to interact and care for his natural creation. With no material essence of their own, they have the power to move and bind elements to create rough elemental forms: stone, water, ice, sand, smoke, lava, etc. -- all appearing somewhat fluid in shape.
Ensomation: The word means “embodiment.” This term is used to describe the manifestation of a spirit in a tactile ethereal form, able to interact with the physical world (similar to illusionary apparitions and conjurations, or interactive holograms). Only ethereal weapons can strike such a manifested creature, since they exist partially in the material realm and partly in the ethereal realm.
Possession: Some of the elemental spirits have the power to take on (possess) the bodies of living creatures and animals. In ancient days, elemental spirits made bodily use of most of the non-sentient reptilian and mammalian species in Elvalar. Desiring to experience the fullness of incarnation, some of these spirits interbred with similar terrestrial creatures, becoming the progenitors of the Janniri.
Ensarkation: The word means “enfleshment.” This term is sometimes used to describe the binding of spirits into earthly forms, bringing about a permanent spiritual “possession” rather than a temporary ensomation or influence. Ensarkation is most often understood in the context of divine punishment. For example, at the time of The Severance, spirits in possession of earthly creatures were "locked" into the creatures they were in possession of at the time.
