Epieros (ee-PEER-ose)

The term Epieros comes from the ancient elvaen word for "mainland" or "continent." The term is used in several different ways.   1) In opposition to the specific continent of Arkhea, the term "Epieros" can be used to refer to the rest of the world (i.e. all other lands outside the continent of Arkhea). This might be used, for example, in referring to the distinction between Arkhean species (six-limbed) versus Epierian species (four-limbed), or to the predeluvian world versus the greater lands of Ulea.   2) The name "Epieros" is somtimes used to refer to the "known world" or human-inhabited lands of planet Ulea (sometimes called "Aerith'). It tends to be used more specifically to refer to the Northern Continent of the known world (excluding Continent of Vhoria and the Southern Continent).   3) The term Epieros is often used by the Fae of Elvala (Faeria) more locally to refer to the lands of the Wessan Continent or the larger region of Lansia (outside the realm of the fae homeland).   4) Calling something "epierian" can also be a way of referring to something not associated with the Fae or Elvaen culture, or something not made or used by the fae (e.g. epierian languages, epierian customs, epierian weapons, etc.) In this context, it is synonymous with the word "outsider" or "foreign" (often among the fae having a connotation which implies "lesser" or of common quality).
