GR 25: Seal of the Past

A group of odd misfits get a job with a traveling riverboat circus and part-time merchants. After becoming involved in several forensic mysteries involving transformed beasts and plants, they discover a larger plot to recover ancient “morphasic tomes” — containing the formulas of the shape-changing Dok-Alfar, and the return of the long-imprisoned spirit of Vulphara (unseen since the Faer-Zudan wars ~1300 years before). Only the ancient crystal Hammers of Diahr could reseal the tomb in which he was imprisoned.   OUTSIDE GAME-TIME: This was the first time that auxiliary resources (internet and commercial) were used to create short episodic adventures. Instead of the normal story-adventure outline, short computer-written sheets were used for each game episode. The game recalled the established history of Celleth Earanil, who sealed the gate of Auvorené in 2737 S.R. He turned out to be the ancestor of Reanna and Visenna). The game also elaborated on the briefly mentioned Faer-zudan wars of the 1900’s (between the Thurim and the shape-changing Dok-Alfar), and the origin of the Hammers of Diahr.   MEMORABLE MOMENTS: The combination of odd and comedic characters made for a unique campaign. Few liked the obnoxious Dolan, who in the first game found himself suspected of murder for threatening a man who later turned out to be killed (all unplanned). Other highlights included a town of child-like Sylvani who loved to hear ‘scary stories’, and the inventive Milo brothers who repelled invaders with their ‘sling-dangler’. This adventure was also the first anyone ever heard of “bayern pears” — apparently, a hot commodity in that region.
