Graefyns
Graefyns are large winged tigers of an ethereal nature. The rare few are usually encountered in packs. They can sense any threat or danger approaching them and will join together to repel an attack on one of their kind. They rarely fly at night, but are very fast and stable fliers. They can be trained as mounts by people they judge as true (sensing ulterior motives). If they choose a rider, they will serve for life, and can communicate telepathic with other members of their species, and to a limited degree with their riders. LV 6, DR 2, 2-5/2-5/1-10.
The word graefyn comes from the the elvean words meaning "silver (gray) wings." They were used as flying mounts by the ancient Elvani, and were often saddled and lightly armored. The traditional gaefyn headpiece was shaped like an eagle's head, with a fitted sharpened "beak" -- giving them +2 on all bite damage inflicted. Some who encountered Graefyns from a distance have assumed that their actual head was that of an eagle. They are often depicted as an eagle-lion hybrid creature in ancient statuary.
According to legend, Graefyns are descended from the angelic Keruvim Sentinals. Whether or not this may be true, as creatures of Arkhea, Graefyns are able to manifest the powers of Ethereomorphism and Ethereophasism, as follows:
Ethereomorphism: This refers to the ability of a creature to ethereally alter the molecular structure of their physical make-up. While Graefyns have no overt shape-changing abilities, they have a chameleon-like ability to change their fur to match their surrounding (from a near-white grey, to various darker gray earth-tones). Their fur always features subtley darker stripes contrasting the base color. Like other Arkhean species, they experience a natural physical regeneration of bodily injury.
Ethereophasism: This refers to the ability of a creature to alter the nature of their body in reference to time and space. Graefyns have one of the most adavnced forms of this power, with the ability to “phase” in and out of the material realm, giving them ethereal invisibility and making them immune to non-ethereal weapons when phased. By phasing through time and space, they have an exceptional teleportation ability, which is said in some rare cases, to include the ability to time travel.
