Human Cultures

All human races in the SpiritQuest game-world are of the same genetic species, however, many different peoples and cultures have developed over time. These can be traced to four basic ancestral lines that share similarities in appearance, culture, and language, due to their ancestors' original geographic proximity, shown below. The races nearer the top of the chart are lighter-skinned; those nearer the bottom of the chart are darker-skinned.   The Western (Elváen) Races The Western Races, often referred to as the "Elváen" peoples, are typified by a slim physical build, delicate features, and a youthful appearance. Easily identified by their pointed ears, fine hair, and fair skin; they tend to dwell in secluded highlands and forest regions of the mid-latitudes. These races are said to be descended from humans that were physically and mentally enhanced in ancient days. They are well-known for their ethereal prowess.   The Northern (Nøerdic) Races The Nøerdic Races are typified by stocky physical builds and broad, round faces. They have light peach-tone skin and various shades of hair, from blond to brown, usually worn long and wooly. The ancestors of these races originate in the arctic tundras and mountains, but they can be found in much more temperate regions as well.   The Eastern (Vensic) Races The Eastern Races are typified by medium physical builds, with bronze to brown-tanned skin and straight brown hair. Their angular faces feature dark almond-shaped eyes. The darker-skinned Gephtans and Thrau bear a shared ancestry with the Southern races as well. Easterners originate in the arid desert lands and river deltas of the equatorial latitudes, but they can be found inhabiting tropical islands and sea-faring coastal regions as well.   The Southern (Traüllish) Races The Southern Races tend to be typified by heavy, muscular builds, with dark reddish-brown skin and coarse hair. Their features are dominated by a strong brow and jaw, with pointed ears, and canine-like incisors. The ancestors of these races originate in the heat of tropical jungles, but they can be found in desert and steppe regions, as well as lands originally inhabited by other cultural groups.
The map below shows the original territories occupied by the four major cultures at the advent of human history (c. 2000 BR).
