Rodessa
Description:
Rodessa is a large fortress city on the Rodessa River just north of the Stonewood (Fal-L'thian). It controls the region between Meda's Mill in the western edge to Lake Dalyan on the eastern edge. The second largest settlement in this region is the river city of Wallin. Rodessa had been a medium-sized stop-over town on the north-south Paracaal merchant road, about halfway between Port Hansra and Onscra. Like Port Hansra, it was considered one of the free cities of the Lansian region, but for most of its history, was under the defacto jurisdiction of the leadership in Onscra. After the flooding of Port Hansra in early 3234 SR., many refugees added to Rodessa's population. At this time, as the War of the Witch was in its early stages, the Order of the Winged Sword took up residence in Rodessa and and moved its base of operations there under the command of Lord Ukkasen the White. In the Spring of 3234, the Order greatly expanded the fortifications of Rodessa with the help of the local population. Rodessa quickly became known as a safe haven for many refugees from local region as well as those who would come from the land of the Great Kingdom in the east. Over time, some friction developed between the city and Onscra, as Rodessa became increasingly independant.. Construction of the fortress was completed quickly due to the enthusiasm of the local people and the help of giant Crystal Golem assisting the Winged Swords. By 3237 SR. the great fortress reached its final state. Throughout the war, the Order of the Winged Sword protected Rodessan lands north of the Greenwood, and assisted the Marshals of Fal-Prasinas against the uprising of Satyr tribes. Though Lord Ukkasen was held in high regard by the citizenry of Rodessa, he did not exercise leadership in the city. A civilian governor was elected to run the city, with a Rodessan militia seperate from the Order of the Winged Sword. Colors: Rust & Black
