Starfall

Starfall is cyclical celestial event that takes place every 512 years, raining destruction down upon the planet of Ulea. It is tied to the proximity of a long period asteroid/cometary cluster known as the Ten Sisters or the Ten Maidens.
Astronomy, as a science, is still somewhat primitive in the SpiritQuest world, making it difficult to accurately classify these objects. Some astronomers suggest that the formation of the cluster may have been the result of an ancient celestial collision, since these mysterious 'solar system bodies' are more similar in composition to M-Type (metallic) asteroids than to typical comets. Yet they do exhibit a highly elliptical orbit more characteristic of moderately long period comets, making their near-planet passes rare but regular events.
The reason these events are commonly known as "starfall" is becuase when the cluster of these bodies is at solar perihelion, they produce repeated meteor showers over an extended period of time. It is not unheard of for asteroid-like meteors to be pulled into collision with the planet Ulea during a such a pass. On a few occasions in human history, some impacts have produced near-global cataclysms.
Ethereal Qualities: A strange and unique meteoric iron has often been found in the form of meteorites that survived impact with the planet. The legendary ancient elvaen "starswords" were made of this ethereal metal. Given that the SpiritQuest world is a fantasy setting, it is likely that the unique properties of this metal are due to a concentration of ethereal power not found in more mundane meteorites.
