Fauna & Flora

Elvenyew: The elvenyew is a strong hardy evergreen of medium to large height, with a wide trunk and many flexible boughs. Unlike a true conifer, the elvenyew bears single seeds surrounded by a fleshy covering, with the appearance of a berry. Though its wood has a high tensile strength, items made of elvenyew are only half the weight they would be if made of other wood. For this reason, the Elvenyew is often used by the Fae in making bows with up to a +1 quality rating. Individual elvenyew trees can live for many centuries.   Tablewood: This low decorative shrub gets its name from its appearance, its crown resembling a flat table-top, supported by its central trunk, about 3-4 feet off the ground. Lone travelers have often been known to cover a tablewood with a canvas for use as a simple make-shift tent. Tablewood seed-cones are soft and edible. To humans, they are quite bland in taste, but for some reason, horses consider them a treat.   Widow's Buckthorn: Often found in wild mountainous areas, this tall narrow tree-shrub is a species of buckthorn. It has a twisted multiple trunk, with peeling reddish bark. It produces clusters of black berries, which are eaten by birds and small animals. It gets its name, because these same berries, when properly boiled and strained, can be used to make a tasteless slow-acting ingestion poison (Type D5). The poison can be put into food, to be eaten without being detected.
