Scrape

Rory wasn't sure that being suspended upside down on a rope was in the job description. Of course, neither was the Streaking fact that the rope was going to be running over an unbelievably lengthy fall directly into the Streaking Pael. Now that he thought about it, neither was having to climb the 30 foot wall in the Faded snow, of all things to get to the Faded rope... Oh and the Thirty-Five Elites of General Faded Amgorin. THEY certainly weren't in the description.

He must have just been lucky.

He continued to put hand over hand, pulling himself along. 15 more feet to go.

Shouts range out from somewhere past his feet. Well. Looks like they found the porcupine. 10 feet to go.

The shouts started to become legible. They had found his rope leaving the tower towards the inner rock wall. 5 feet.

He glanced down past his feet. Oh. They were cutting his Faded rope! He actually paid for this rope and dissolve him if he didn't want to have to buy another. He started hustling along. The rope snapped just as his hands made contact with the rock at the end of the rope. The half that had been attached to the tower descended into the Pael. That was Fading unfortunate. Everybody knew pulling anything out of the Pael was bad luck. He'd just have to buy a new rope when he got back to civilization.

He vaulted down from the side of the rock wall and found himself in a large pile of coins and intricately worked goods. Finally.

Ah, sweet, sweet piles of treasure. There were ornate golden goblets, probably 15 gold apiece for those, a tapestry clearly painted on Byre hide... that would sell well in Riult. So many riches, all his for the taking. Now that... That HAD been in the job description.

Rory wondered what the job would include tomorrow.
Scrapes are diggers. They scavenge into the unseen parts of the world, braving dangers that might frighten the mightiest of Magen, and dealing with situations even Reachers would call inescapable. Scrapes have a keen sense of self-preservation, but that doesn't mean they don't take risks if those risks can take them closer to their goals. They are always prepared with tools and can flow into picking information out of a social scene as easily as they can pouring over obscure texts in a library. They also don't shy away from a little fisticuffs if it is warranted. Scrapes pull together whatever skills they need for when they need them, and adapt to any situation.

Playing a Scrape

Scrapes fulfill a number of roles as well. Being natural treasure-seekers and scavengers, the Scrape is adept at getting into and out of places. While they aren't typically the face or the main bruiser of a group, Scrapes can be built in such a way to provide a backup in one of those areas should the need arise. They are nimble and dextrous with talents that lend themselves to being ranged combatants (A Scrape would almost always prefer to deal with problems far away and live to Scrape another day). They are very commonly the party thief, handling the main B&E trade a party might need.

Scrape Origins

While all Scrapes seek to explore the secret and lost places of the world, many of them have different reasons for doing so.
Treasure-Hunter You like treasure. This could take the form of a desire to build a dragon-style horde with big enough piles of gold you can go swimming in them, or it could take a more subtle tone: The collect trying to complete his set. You are in it for what you can get out of it; nothing more and nothing less. Each new ruin represented an opportunity to find something else to add to the collection, the pile, or the pawn-broker.
Historian Treasure is nice, but at heart, you really are just a teacher. Maybe you studied the world before the Splintering; maybe you lived it. You travel it now from place to place to find relics and lost scraps of lore that will simply be gone if you don't claim them and preserve them.
Thug You're part of a crew, and you know your role. You started as a lookout, keeping a watch for guards as the bigger members of the crew took care of breaking in. As time went on, your responsibilities grew and you dug your hole deeper and deeper. You're no stranger to violence, and certainly can see the value of using it to get what you want.
