WWDitC Ch. XIII: Battle of Flicker Trail
General Summary
Jan. 29 - Jan. 31, 1994
The University of Washington coterie arrived in Portland early in the evening, starting their journey at the Camarilla enclave downtown to pay respects to the Mayor of Boston and his Sheriff (a Banu Haqim by the name of Nadiya). In the last thirty years the Anarchs had conquered much of Portland's territory, leaving the Camarilla to isolate themselves in a handful of city blocks near the city's historical society listening to the same music and movies from their mortal days.
Nadiya, a friend of the Long Shadow and eager for a change of pace, assisted the coterie as they started to explore the city for any signs of Ted Conklin and his Anarchs. The group gained intel about a ritual being performed in Flicker Trail, racing over there later in the evening to confront Ted and his minions. Sure enough, Melina Orr and a couple other Anarchs were performing some kind of strange ceremony to accelerate an event known as the 'Week of Nightmares'. Ted Conklin and his kindred identified themselves as members of the Sabbat, a radical sect of vampires that had no qualms about breaking the masquerade (as evidenced by their violent killing of Misty Kirk last fall).
A fight broke out, Daphne testing the limits of her Thin Blood alchemy while Nadiya defended Kate. Alex was battered into torpor by Ted's minions, but not before Melina Orr succombed to her final death at the hands of the coterie. Ted managed to escape Flicker Trail, Daphne and the others collecting Melina's ashes before returning to Elysium to recover from the violent attack. Alex stayed in torpor for several days, and it wasn't until Nadiya called Shivani Kapur down from Seattle that he was able to be revived back to consciousness. Shivani's services came at cost: the coterie would owe her a boon sometime in the future, and Alex would spend several months studying in private with her far from the distractions of Seattle's nighttime politics. It was a hard bargain, but Daphne and Kate begrudgingly agreed before heading back to the Emerald City to see what all had changed since their departure.
