WWDitC Ch. XIV: An Early End to the Semester

General Summary

Jan. 31 - Feb. 11, 1994
The University of Washington Coterie returned to Seattle after an eventful journey down to Portland, but not before collecting some souvenirs. Kate had plenty of free time to herself, and following some leads from Stella she found Loose Ends Antiquitiess tucked away in a quiet alleyway. Alice Welles, the shopkeeper, was polite and friendly as she showed Kate around (even when it became clear that K was searching for more supernatural antiques). Alice sold the young drug dealer a couple of rare books, a fresh copy of De Vermiis Mysteriies and an older edition of a book called All of Them Witches written in the 1960's by J.R. Hanslet. K would have plenty to read back in Seattle.    Meanwhile, Alex and Daphne were both prepared for radical lifestyle changes after the Portland trip. Daphne was formally expelled from the University of Washington at the start of February, a messy breakup with her boyfriend following not long after. Evicted from the dorms, Daphne relocated to a guest bedroom in Tom Hatch's Victorian mansion in North Admiral to crash with K and Jason. A couple of people tried to break into the place while the coterie was away, no doubt some of Wilton Wither's goons, but Tom held his own and apart from a wounded arm the house remained secure. Meanwhile Trea had become completely free of Wither's brainwashing, making Jason feel confident enough to start calling his old band mates up from Los Angeles to settle in town.    Indeed, the city was starting to feel safer after an autumn full of uncertainty. Sheriff Rosalita Lee issued a proclamation offering amnesty to all Anarchs in the city if they agreed to surrender to the Camarilla's leadership, the alternative being a hostile banishment from the city. Ted Conklin's Sabbat would be a persistent threat throughout the West Coast, but if the Camarilla of every city could be unified it would be a problem with a quick resolution. In the meantime the Long Shadow wanted to deal with problems closer to home, delivering an ultimatum to Daphne to promptly fix the 'problem' they had discussed at Elysium upon her return to Seattle. Feeling like the Folk Singer had burdened them with deals and expectations beyond their abilities, Daphne and Alex's resentment for their sire continued to simmer.    But as the spring semester wore on, the coterie started feeling more divided than ever. Hector continued working at the docks, Ophelia kept an eye on the Caitiff Jaime and the campus gossip, and Jason continued collecting blackmail to lord over the campus staff. Daphne felt far removed from the University in Tom's basement crafting alchemical solutions for the Long Shadow, and it became even more isolating after Alex left the city. One Friday Alex boarded a ferry with Shivani Kapur, headed to a small town called Forks for months of training in the art of Golconda. Everyone's bound to reunite in the long nights of kindred society, but after all this time apart they'd be seeing each other under remarkably different circumstances.
