Event: Catalyst Grove
The Catalyst Grove is an event invented in early 1920 that made it easier for ordinary Leray wielders to become tower elites and insert themselves in a position of power should their fighting skills top that of any one of the tower elites. The political structure of Eldora Tower is based on a principle of power, but also of honor. Before this event, tower elites were hand selected by the champion of Leray magic and held into power for unlimited terms. Many law makers found this tipped scale of balance unfair, and added the Catalyst Grove event as a parent of the championship battle event.
On the same day of each week, the Catalyst Grove and the championship battle events happen in alternation, giving wielders the chance to replace elites while others battle those elites to obtain the temporary rights and credentials needed to battle against the champion. But the Catalyst Grove does not affect the champion in any way, only the tower elites.
The process: A wielder will register in the Catalyst Grove and select one of the four elites he or she will challenge. The current elite level rank matters here because that challenger will have to battle their way to that elite in much the same way they fight in the championship battles. In other words, if a wielder taking part in the catalyst grove wishes to replace the level-3 elite of Eldora Tower through a battle, he or she must first battle and defeat in succession the level-1 and level-2 elites before being eligible to battle their target. But once facing off against the selected elite, the normal rules of Leray combat change, purposefully shifting the balance of advantages to the elite to truly test the versatility of that challenger, a condition the mage council eventually accepted in order to maintain a more stable government through Eldora Tower. The challenger, when facing the target will be subject to rules that put that challenger at a slight disadvantage, such as the inability to carry their primary weapon that they own, fighting against a time limit, and having to maintain an HP level above 50% in order to be declared a victor, while the standing elite would need to be knocked out before that time limit ends.
If successful, the challenger replaces that standing elite, and the elite is removed from Eldora Tower's position of power. In addition, all tower elites may individually challenge the champion without the use of the championship event requirements, replacing the position of power by means of swapping should that elite defeat the champion. If failed, that specific elite will be unable to battle the champion again for 3 months.
The purpose of this event is to allow tower elites to be replaced by strong and worthy Leray wielders who can serve the existing champion, while maintaining a balanced system of government and preserving traditions. This may also be a shortcut for many wielders who wish to defeat and become a champion, because once a tower elite, they can freely battle the champion every 3 months for that title.
Only registered level-3 Leray wielders can take part in this event. Because of the large pool of participants, there is often a waiting list.
