Event: Trial of Mages

The trial of mages is a secret event within the Sprawn Valley tower mage society designed specifically for the champion of Leray magic. This event is not exactly a rites of passage or a requirement to maintain any status, but holds importance for the tower mages to conduct their research on Eupharus Island. For the champion, this is the opportunity to obtain both the Mega-Staff and capture the legendary summon of Entiene. For the mages, this enables them to fly to Eupharus Island and collect priceless materials and minerals mostly related to the creation of high quality magic crystals, crystals which in turn are used in the construction and maintenance of the crystal core.
The Trial of Mages is not available to every champion. Those who complete the trial and capture Entiene are permitted to keep the Mega-Staff and their life-long link to Entiene until the time of their death. Because there is only one Mega-Staff and one Entiene, he who inherits these items does not give them up if championship titles are lost to another. In most cases, a new champion is not told about the trial of mages at all if another former champion holds these tools. If the trial is available, the mages do not speak of the trial until they believe that wielder is ready for it.
The purpose of the trial of mages for the tower mages is to obtain the ability to harvest these crystal materials from the Eupharus Region safely. Entiene lives on Eupharus, and chases away any visitors who make enough noise or stay for too long. But when captured inside of the Mega-Staff's linked segment of the magical dimension, mages can visit Eupharus freely and without interruption. For the champion, it is an opportunity to use the most powerful summon in the world against any challenger who faces them in combat, provided he or she learns to control Entiene.
Only the champion of Leray magic is eligible for this trial, and only if Entiene is not currently tied to another Leray wielder. In order to complete the trial, that champion must go to Eupharus Island and challenge Entiene to a fair and legal (but ultimately unofficial) Leray battle, defeating the summon at the top of Eupharus Volcano using only the weapon of the Mega-Staff so that his essence may be captured and linked to the device. The challenge is not for the faint of heart.
