Lunar Flare

Lunar Flare is an upgraded lunar magic spell from the Lunar Beam skill. Lunar Flare launches a single (12 foot diameter) energy sphere to the target with homing properties towards the area above or nearby the target location. The sphere will attempt to make an impact, but is not required to, as the sphere then explodes in a massive high-energy blast in all directions that destroys anything in its path. An alternate form of this ability is manifested in a wide-area vertical beam that is blasted down from the sky in an explosive impact to the ground on top of the target, dealing massive damage to the whole area, enough to drill through the earth or other metal objects in the way. This flare has an ultimate power level that prevents any other force from blocking out its damage, while using up a tremendous amount of energy and stressing the magical circuits to the limit. Even with lunastasis, using Lunar Flare just one time is risky as well as it is harmful to overall long-term health. The ME requirement for this spell is incredibly high above all other lunar spells.

By its design, lunar magic does not need to be used under the confines of a veil; it can exist anywhere in the world and deplete from a person's charged ME levels. However, without the ability to recharge depleted ME points, using magic is ill-advised, since the condition would trigger intrusive rejection. But as with proven documentation of ancient trials from mages who studied lunar magic, the format of magic while possible is considered too dangerous for the user to conduct or test. In theory, anyone with high enough ME points can technically invoke Lunar Beam or other lunar magic spells. But in doing so, they severely risk their life in the process since the overdraw of intense magic easily overloads or damages magical circuits, which in turn inhibits or disrupts important neuron-electric processes, while also damaging structural DNA/RNA over time. The use of lunar magic is always fatal to the user, either causing a long term death inflicted most commonly with cancer, or instantly on the spot from critical organ failure. Alternatively, it may be possible to affect the mind of the user as well, in a condition known as lunar madness.

Side/Secondary Effects

The use of all lunar magic has life-shortening effects on the body, or fatal consequences to the mind and body for anyone who does not have lunastasis. For the target, real time damage will occurr.

Manifestation

With either variation of the spell, the results are catastrophic to the opponent, blasting their entire area with a force of lunar power so intense, it can destroy several tons of layered steel instantly, and if the person is weak enough, disintegrate their entire body from a most direct hit. This explosive burst of lunar magic is the strongest manifestation of lunar magic known to anybody. This energy blast uses pure lunar magic, which as a force is far superior compared to all other spells regardless of the attack form that is used. Therefore, lunar magic such as this spell will without fail inflict real time damage to other people including other creatures/summons. The lunar magic spheres can also easily destroy or damage all objects that are supposed to be protected by the Leray veil through protective item synthesis. The cause for this is also linked to the effect this has on other people's personal/magical auras, since the lunar magic is strong enough to disrupt or break the link that target wielder has between their magical circuits and the alternate veil that is giving them their own powers, separate from their potential lunar magic source. In effect, this ability can theoretically disrupt or disable the magic abilities of the person hit by this spell, aside from taking serious wounds and other real time damage. Unlike dark magic, lunar magic needs no particular emotion to function, nor does it require a veil.

In the Scarlet Warfare series, Jane Venn refined her Lunar Beam ability into a wide area auric blast to generate a larger explosion with the support of the lunastasis symbol, installed by the E-7 Mark 64 spell bomb prototype. Jane Venn is the only genetically modified human being who can invoke lunar magic such as Lunar Beam without suffering from the fatal consequences that all other mages would for invoking lunar magic. Her magical circuits were genetically altered so that lunar magic could safely pass through while the ME levels were reconfigured to a higher state gradually over time rather than suddenly, causing past experiments on test subjects to lead to instant death.

Material Components

This must come from personal MP. Lunar Crystals typically do not store enough energy to support a single invocation of this ability. Larger, higher quality lunar crystals (a lot of them used at once) may support the energy requirements, but the effects have never directly been tested. Mages may theoretically estimate that the crystals would break or shatter attempting the process.

Gestures & Ritual

Connecting the personal aura to the lunar magic signature when used to Leray/dark magic is not an easy task. One must somehow identify the conceptual powers of the moonlight as an energy source and be capable of feeling the sensation without the assistance of magic before attempting successful practice.
