Power Shield
Power Shield is a powerful shielding ability that any Leray wielder can use. Under normal circumstances, a power shield takes dynamic MP energy usage projected from a wielder's hands and generates a magical aura around the user to act as a defensive shield against all levels of physical or magical damage. However, the effectiveness of this kind of shield is at best 50%. This means that no matter how much MP energy is used in the process, the shield does not block out the damage entirely, it just reduces this damage by a certain factor. Studies show that with incredible MP conservation improvements and years of practice, the power shield can be made more effective in terms of damage reduction, but such a task would not be easy.
When using a power shield, MP energy is constantly being projected just to keep the shield running. But when the shield takes damage, a serious strain is placed on the user of this ability, making it a lot harder to hold the same shield up. Power Shield is said to be effective against all spells, but there could be certain exceptions, such as Dimensional Strike and 4-D Gyser. Given how much MP this ability uses for only limited protection levels, Power Shield is not a widely popular spell.

Manifestation
The user sends their MP energy into a protective aura that generates all around their body and holds to a specific energy signature to reject as much damage as possible. Many call this an anti-damage aura mainly based on the highly distinguishable sound that this aura generates when a certain amount of damage is blocked out, generating a multi-pitched cacophonic energy reflection sound never heard in any other spell. The aura itself is thicker than most auras, about 12 inches thick on all sides, and retains a weak blue coloration on the outside edge. The wielder, while stuck inside of this shield expends an initial MP cost just to generate the shield, and gradually depletes the remaining energy slowly over time to keep the shield going, meaning they cannot make any physical movements, chant any additional spells, or avert their hands without collapsing the protective shield.
While stuck inside of this aura, the shield generates a soft but constant noise of energy expansion that is quite soothing to the ears. However, this shield actually blocks out 70% of all sound from the outside no matter what it comes from. When damage is inflicted into the shield aura, a large collection of energy hexagons form towards the area of impact where the damage occurred. These hexagons have the same texture and energy pattern of the shield aura itself, and represent the location of energy disruption for both the user and opposing wielder to witness the power of this shielding technique. But the hexagons serve another purpose. The size of these hexagons when they do show up are different depending on how much damage is being blocked out, relative to the total power level of individual impact. Low damaging attacks will generate very large and only a few hexagons in the site of area impact. High damaging attacks will generate very small hexagons, a lot more of them towards the sight of impact. When the aura collapses, it does so by degenerating in a downwards direction from the top, as the aura itself bubbles up with a hexagonal pattern of degradation in its collapse.
Many mages have stated that with 100% protection efficiency, Power Shield is like a personal miniature version of the Siriean dome, running with a limited amount of time and MP power source.

(Read Dawn of a Sage Part 2)
Jane Venn managed to modify the unpopular power shield (unpopular due to MP cost) through the passive effects of the lunastasis symbol, enabling the shield itself to be 100% effective in blocking out all damage, yielding an average total resistance of 9, and lowering the base MP cost to a single digit number. This version of the spell, known as Jane Venn's Power Shield is highly effective as a means of blocking out any kind of damage including that from dark magic or even lunar magic. The shield uses an anti-damage aura of resistance over a period of time, but comes with some serious drawbacks.
While the Power Shield can become even more powerful with practice over time, some of the downsides of this conservative Power Shield variation is that it will leave the user drained of their stamina and magical focus for a brief period of time, more so if the shield fails or collapses due to taking too much damage or sustaining itself for too long a period of time. This power shield can only last for an average time of seven seconds, becoming more difficult and straining to keep up past this point. And regardless of how it is used, once the shield aura is done protecting the user, that same wielder cannot recast this spell for a minimum duration of 6 seconds.
Gestures & Ritual
The wielder must project this magical energy from both open hands on opposite ends of their body and hold them up this way to act as opposite poles to the energy field. Some wielders cross their arms and hands before projection, but doing so doesn't change the effects. The wielder can lower their arms and hands as a means of cutting all power to the shield and causing it to collapse on their terms, or simply shut off the MP projection from their hands to stop the aura early. The amount of MP usage differs between the initial generation of the shield and the time it takes to keep the shield going.
