Resistor Surge
A Resistor Surge is actually an item, but it can be spawned from the spell Resistor Surge. Given how much physical resources and credits the Resistor Surge costs, the items are quite rare since relying on the spell can be very easy. When a wielder places down a Resistor Surge unit into the ground below them, the unit activates a low-level magical nullification field, which is specifically designed only to work on the opposing ability - Star of Darkness. When a wielder is about to suffer from a Star of Darkness attack, the Resistor Surge can limit its power, effectively cutting all of the power levels including the effects of HP and stamina drain in half for the full duration of the enemy spell. However, in order to be effective at all, the Resistor Surge must be activated before the activation of the Star of Darkness payload, or the completion of its holographic symbol on the ground. When Resistor Surge is working, every effect from the Star of Darkness spell is cut in half, including the final payload of the double electrical strike. This unit also cuts in half the effectiveness of other draining spells, such as Drain, Drainga, and Void Edge. Resistor Surge has no other effect on spells other than the mentioned abilities above.
The spell Resistor Surge simply uses magical energy to create a Resistor Surge item that will last for 30 seconds, more than enough time to counter the Star of Darkness spell, all using a special generation glyphring with a fixed cost of 5% MP energy (regardless of individual ME levels). As long as Resistor Surge is activated first, all affected spells will be reduced. This is of course a standalone ability.

Side/Secondary Effects
The nullification field will not affect the ally who placed it down, unless used outside of a valid Siriean dome.
Manifestation
These Resistor Surges look like a handheld targeting beacon, with the bottom half consisting of a pointed metal rod that can be stuck into the ground, and the top half consisting of the miniature field generator which looks like a skinny garden lamp with all virtual components and LEDs inside of the device. Once the unit becomes active, the top half spins rapidly while lighting up with its red LED color effects, which in the spell variation is just visual Leray magic. The nullification field itself is totally invisible.

Material Components
This article describes the spell version of this item creation, so the only material used up is MP energy.
Gestures & Ritual
Whether spawned from a spell or used as a real item, a Resistor Surge has a pointed end at the bottom to help it stand up in the ground in earthy terrain, or an alternative magnetic strip to help it stand up on a harder surface. Wielders who uses this carefully toss it or place it on the ground so that the device is standing up. The unit has smart technology that can determine when a wielder has properly placed the item, and automatically activates at this time. Simply preparing the unit is not enough to activate the device. This device disappears almost entirely after its use. The physical version usually leaves behind some metal residue that can be recycled as a raw material.
Effect Duration
A single Resistor Surge has a timer of 30 seconds. So even after countering a draining spell, the unit will continue to function for a duration until its timer runs out, or until the units takes significant damage from an attack targeting this beacon.
Effect Casting Time
Nearly Instant, must be manually activated.
Range
The invisible nullification field has a range of 50 meters.
