Earth

Earth used to be the third planet in the Sol star system, and was the home world of Humans. A rather temperate world, it was a fantastic spawning ground for numerous types of life.
Sadly, it and the entire Sol system was hit centuries ago by a rogue gamma ray burst. This irradiated all planets in the system, leaving Earth and all their original colonies a barren wasteland.
