"Scute skin" is an umbrella term for several conditions that can occur in Sobeks, making their skin look more scaly or scute-like.
It can be a side effect from an excessive intake of basilisk eggs - or an allergic reaction to it.

Transmission & Vectors
Common for all conditions describes scute skin is that it by no means is contageous.
Causes
The condition is either "activated" in your genes from birth or "triggered" by messing enough with your hormones (like by eating basilisk eggs).
Symptoms
Much of the skin becomes darker, greener and harder, like crocodile leather.
Some even experience small horn growths in the affected areas.
It's most visible on the back, and some can with some luck hide it with clothes.

Treatment
You can hope that your body sheds the scales at some point, leaving a more humane skin underneath, but it depends a lot on your body and reason for your condition.
Prognosis
If it's from seldom intake of basilisk eggs, you can expect it to shed after a day or a couple, leaving soft pink skin underneath, and in the end leaving no signs.
Otherwise you can expect to keep your scales for life, possibly worsening, but probably just staying as they are.

Sequela
If a Sobek carrying the genes from birth should start eating raw basilisk egg yolks, it always worsens the condition:
More of the body will start getting discolored, the scute will get tougher, and thicker, more horns will form etc.
A side effect is that the skin takes on shedding on a regular basis, which is itchy at best.

Naturally, sex and body type is not a factor. Some may have a genetic disposition towards it though.
Prevention
There is no real treatment if someone already has the condition, however most children get a vaccine to lower the risk of developing them.

The condition has been there as far back as anyone can tell.
It has had periods of reverence and periods of shame, depending on sociological trends.
Some warriors in history did all in their power to become as scaly as possible, and saw it as a connection to the mighty sarcoes, others have seen it as a shameful reminder of their species' primitive past.

Nowadays the condition has caused quite a schism:
Most civilian Sobek try to hide it if they have it and wouldn't want to associate with anyone afflicted with it.
Most soldiers and pirates consider them cool and connects them with the warriors of old.
As something the humans don't have, it gives some a racial pride.

I made this world because my mind keeps rambling, and instead of stopping it, I'm riding the wave.
It started with a picture in my mind of a tiger man in a small spacecraft following a giant tiger in space, in the tone of old saturday morning cartoons and the Heavy Metal animated movie.
Then came the idea of his occational ally, a woman in space flying a small asteroid. The more I wrote on her, the more I got intrigued by the past, I deviced.
Right now the flow is focused on her background - namely all related to The Genesis Project.
I do all of the writing and almost all of the drawing myself at this point.
My hope for Star Tiger is a published story or a graphical novel, but my big dream is an animated show.
