Whales

A branch of mammalian aquatic animals, native to the oceans of Terra. These creatures included the largest beings on Earth before the Exodus of Humanity.
With the death of planet Earth, or Terra, most animals are considered extinct or on the brink of extinction, only held alive through other planet zoos and collectors. One category considered completely extinct are whales.
Many smaller sea creatures may have been saved through collectors etc. but due to the sheer size of these aquatic giants, they have been practically impossible to save, as Earth died and had to be terraformed.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Whales had a streamlined body shape for a fully aquatic lifestyle. They propelled themselves through the oceans by their broad flattened tail moving up and down, while maneuvering with flippers. Most were very large in size.

Genetics and Reproduction

Most whales sexually matured after seven years, and reproduction was seasonal.
While some may have been monogamous, many were promiscuous, possibly even having several partners each season.
They were pregnant for about 9-16 Terran months, after which they'd birth a single calf in most instances.
Like most mammals, the young were nursed with milk from their mother's

Ecology and Habitats

Whales belonged to the vast oceans of Terra. To thrive they needed vast bodies of water. Depending on the specific type of whale different needs in temperature etc. would determine their distribution across the planet.
Many whales migrate between seasonal habitats, several thoussand kilometres or miles apart.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Most had an exclusively carnivorous diet, hunting smaller sea critters, like fish or krill.

Behaviour

Most whales were social creatures, living in mostly peaceful groups known as pods.
Observation of whales has revealed, that they are clever enough to teach each other and to cooperate or even scheme.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The toothed whales were often capable of echolocation.

Geographic Distribution
I made this world because my mind keeps rambling, and instead of stopping it, I'm riding the wave.
It started with a picture in my mind of a tiger man in a small spacecraft following a giant tiger in space, in the tone of old saturday morning cartoons and the Heavy Metal animated movie.
Then came the idea of his occational ally, a woman in space flying a small asteroid. The more I wrote on her, the more I got intrigued by the past, I deviced.
Right now the flow is focused on her background - namely all related to The Genesis Project.
I do all of the writing and almost all of the drawing myself at this point.
My hope for Star Tiger is a published story or a graphical novel, but my big dream is an animated show.
