Melani D'ian

Currently, Dian status and her relationship with the Klingon Empire remains unknown. It is known fromsome evidence collected from several sources with the High Council and from the work of Starfleet Intelligence that Di'an has been fustrated by the Empire's turn to peace and co-operation not only with the Federation but with the Romulans, as the Klingons have not only ended the contracts that allowed the Orion Syndicate to pirate and scavenege in their territories, but has also joined in the Khitomer Alliance's efforts in anti-piracy and policing duties, which has directly impacted the Syndicate's formerly lucerative operations. Indeed, there are accounts detailing D'ian's representatives arguing with their former sponsors in the High Council and speculation that D'ian has directly messaged Chancellor L'rell with a threat of ending the Syndicate's alliance with the Empire and allying with other criminal elements such as those in the Ferengi underworld or even moving on to areas of the Galaxy beyond the Alliance's reach.   Starfleet Intelligence believes however that the threat of the Syndicate may be waning. Currently many Orions now live across the Federation and the Klingon Empire and even some in the Romulan Republic, as recognised citizens and while those in the Empire may have been considered a client race, their standing there was already in good regard with a fairly good standard of living which has even increased following the Klingon Civil War of 2411, along with the Empire's other subject races. This is in contrast to those territories directly controlled by the Syndicate, which continue to see high levels of violence, substance abuse and slavery, which continues to encourage migation of desparte refugees away from these areas.   It may be possible that the Sydicate's time may be coming to end, or at least, rendered ineffectual.
