Senate-class Star Destroyer

The proposed Senate-class of Star Destroyers represents a swing away from the battleship back toward the carrier role. Midway between an Imperial and Victory at 1,200 meters long, the Senate design is meant to combine a hefty complement of 144 starfighters with firepower comparable to a Victory II and powerful shields using technologies pioneered by the Mon Calamari. However, between the volume needed for the hangars and dedicated to additional reactors for the advanced weapons and shields, the design has a distinctly reduced capacity for troops and cargo compared to other Star Destroyers. Current design documents call for the majority of the class's remaining carrying capacity to be easily configurable between cargo and troop transport, given a modicum of advance notice. Only the flag apartments (comfortable accommodations for up to 50 people, meant for admirals, senators, or other dignitaries – and their staffs) cannot be readily converted into meaningful cargo space.
