DS-12a MicroSRM Vambrace
They may not have the variety of a Mando’a vambrace but they’ve got it where it counts.
Inspired by the legendary “Singing Birds” of Mandalorian fame, the DS 12a “MicroSRM” Vambrace is a model of concealable, anti-personnel weaponry developed by Nero-stal Industries. The first model, the DS-1, was originally developed for use by the Corporate Sector Authority to use against potential economic riots or industrial saboteurs during the early years of the Galactic Civil War.
The effectiveness of the weapon, despite being less advanced than the Mandalorian version, drew the attention of various criminal syndicates and bounty hunter guilds. Notable users are the Tilles Pirate Clan sharpshooters from Chalcedon and the Crimson Nova “Ghost” assassins.
Today, while difficult to purchase due to cost and legal restrictions on some worlds, the DS-12a MicroSRM Vambrace has become a popular choice for bounty hunters, covert-op specialists, pirates, and professional assassins. The most recent, and easily recognizable, are certain members of the Adepta Sororitas, the Bene Gesserit warriors also known as the 'Sisters of the Steel Rose'.
Small and Adaptable
The best part? Fewer moving parts means its easier to conceal, easier to disguise. Until you need to use it, that is…
The MicroSRM is a portable ion launcher system built into an armored vambrace, or forearm guard. Typically designed for the humanoid body shape, the weapon housing is adjustable. This allows it to be expanded or contracted to suit near-humans and non-humans alike.
Ammunition, which is the main reason for the expense of the MircoSRM, is a clip of 12 mini-missiles. These missiles contain a small ion repulsor engine to provide thrust. The launcher performs the ignition of the engine through the use of a small, burst-yield power cell in the ‘rear’, or ‘elbow-side’ of the device.
The launcher is designed to fire only one to three of the mini-missiles at a time for safety. Any more than that overheats the weapon and burning the wearer.
Needles with a Punch
Really, the only thing that hits harder than a Nervehammer is a Tatooine Sunrise. The Tatooine Sunrise is a bit more tasty, especially if you have it with a twist of limed puzzle fruit…
MicroSRM missiles traditionally carry a plasma burst warhead. This is the standard ammunition found in most weapon markets. But other varieties exist.
In certain weapon vendors of the Corporate Sector or shadow ports in the Mid-Rim, variant warheads do exist. The most common are the Nervehammer and the Flamebird missiles, which are popular among a few of the bounty hunter guilds. Specifically, certain members of the Crimson Nova guild who specialize in hunting Force sensitive targets.
The Flamebird is the more flashy of the pair. It’s the same pen size and shape as the other mini-missiles for the MicroSRM, but the results rival an overloaded heavy blaster discharge.
On impact, the Flamebird ignites a blaster discharge at point blank range at the moment it contacts the target. This allows for the greatest amount of energy discharge to impact the target in the shortest amount of time.
The Nervehammer is at the opposite end of the scale. Unlike the Flamebird, the Nervehammer is a non-lethal load, designed to subdue a target. Its warhead is a miniaturized ion generator.
On impact, the warhead ignites, delivering a powerful stun charge into the target that scrambles their nervous system for a short amount of time. The charge is sufficient to handle most small to medium-sized humanoid species. Larger species, such as Cathar or pachydermoids like the Cragmoloids require a full burst of three missiles.
Power Generation
As mentioned, the MicroSRM is powered by a small burst-yield cell. This cell is the size of a 25 mm coin-credit shaped wafer. The standard burst-yield cells are one use. But a restricted, rechargeable version can be purchased in the Corporate sector where they have been on the market for several years.
