Form VI: Niman
Form VI: Niman
Niman is often called the "Form of Moderation" or the "Diplomat's Form", is a balanced form. This form is of interest to Jedi who are less inclined towards combat and more towards being a diplomat, teacher, or those who are inclined toward a broad training in lightsaber technique.
The result was a form that was less demanding than other styles, relying more on the practitioner's intuition and improvisation instead of high skill in any particular part of lightsaber combat. Some students of fighting styles refer to Niman as the "Art of Misdirection", as Niman practitioners will often employ techniques designed to intimidate, misdirect or otherwise befuddle opponents so that they will choose surrender instead of combat.
There is one particular item to note that Niman is also a stepping stone to a dual-wielding lightsaber form known as Jar'Kai.
Game Mechanics
Advanced SkillAttribute: Knowledge
Difficulty: Moderate(15)
To use Niman, a character rolls once at the start of the combat. If the character succeeds, the skill stays "up" for 2 x die code of Niman. While the skill is "up", it does not count toward skill use after initiation for determining the die code penalties.
If the character fails the roll to initiate the form or the combat has lasted longer than 2 x the die code of Niman, that character will need to leave the combat ( not go into cover but actually leave the combat ) for 30 seconds, or 6 rounds of combat in order to reactivate the form. An example of this was Qui-Gon Jinn sitting down during the fight with Darth Maul during Episode 1.
Effect+
- On a successful Melee Parry, Character may make one immediate Martial Arts: Disarm OR a Lightsaber skill roll to attempt to disarm an opponent. Note that this should be done without a die code penalty for multiple skill use.
- Add Half Persuasion to Lightsaber ( on top of Lightsaber Combat bonuses ) when performing a Melee Parry in a duel.
- Add Alter to Martial Arts when attempting to perform Martial Arts: Disarm, Hold/Grapple, or Reversal against an opponent (lightsaber not required).
- May attempt use of one use of Alter Mind in combat per round against one opponent without a die code penalty for multiple skill use.
