Sifo-Dyas

First campaign appearance: Shards of Honor 20.0 "Decision at New Shella"

Jedi Master (a.k.a. Toshiro Mifune)

Ran a “general store” on New Shella, dealing in a lot of barter. Shared a cigar and a fight with Yeager Lexics.

Turned out to be a (departed?) Jedi Battle-Master, who patted Vanya on the head and walked off when invited to visit at the Old Folks’ Home.

I think that was supposed to mean, “No thanks, kid, I’m retired.”

Character Prototype
Toshiro Mifune in his later Akira Kurosawa films is our model for Master Sifo-Dyas

In a diversion from Star Wars canon back toward George Lucas's original plan, Master Sifo-Dyas was not the actual person who ordered the Grand Army. He did argue in favor of the idea, but it was his old friend Dooku's new master Darth Sidious who impersonated him to the Kaminoan clone makers. Sifo-Dyas had talked his frustration over with Dooku and Qui-Gon Jinn several times. Qui-Gon encouraged Sifo-Dyas to take a leave of absence from the order to go think in private. Instead, Sifo-Dyas decided to become one of the "Lost", those who leave the Jedi Order entirely to find their own path.

He told Qui-Gon of his intention.

Qui-Gon, obeying impulses he could not put into words, told no one else -- not even his own former master, Dooku.

Changing his name a few times on his journeys, the former Jedi found that he enjoyed running a little general store in a community so rural that it relied on a barter system. Whenever he found himself involved in serious conflict, he would settle the matter appropriately and permanently, and then resume his wandering.
