Hondo Ohnaka
Overview:
Hondo Ohnaka, a Weequay male, was an infamous pirate and outlaw who operated throughout the galaxy. With a career spanning several decades, Ohnaka gained notoriety and often found himself involved in the tumultuous conflicts of his time. Although his exploits were primarily self-serving, he provided crucial aid and assistance during pivotal moments in the Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War, and First Order-Resistance War.
By the time of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Ohnaka was the titular pirate king of the Florrum-based Ohnaka Gang. Ohnaka's first entrance into the conflict was a major one, as he managed to capture the leader of the Confederacy, Count Dooku, as well as the Jedi Generals Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Ohnaka was unsuccessful in ransoming the trio, but his influence was far from diminished.
War on Wobani:
Throughout the rest of the war, the pirate frequently encountered Kenobi, Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano in both helpful and antagonistic roles. One such encounter came with Kenobi and Skywalker on Wobani in the third year of the Clone War. Ohnaka and his gang launched a prison break in order to rescue Sintilha Joxia from captivity in Detention Centre 141F and were interrupted by the Republic's invasion of the planet.
Ohnaka freed Sintilha in order to secure a shipment of 50 crates of the rare medical herb nysillin from her former-partner and boyfriend Ulos, who had double crossed Hondo after an encounter with the crime lord Maul.
Scorched Earth:
He would later join Sintilha and her companions on the planet Felucia, where she made good on her promise to return the lost shipment, helping him secure supplies from farmers abadonning their crops in the wake of an oncoming Separatist attack. He was then roped into helping with the evacuation of said farmers by Joxia.
The Crait Clusterfuck:
A few weeks later they were reunited again when his attempts to establish a fraudulent salt crystal mining operation on Crait were interrupted by the same group, who were now planning to assault the base of the Grof Gang on the uncharted mineral planet. Ohnaka was persuaded to aid their efforts, and used his Corona-Class Frigate to fly into the base and free liberated slaves only after negotiating a steep fee per head!
Interim:
With that operation going smoothly, Hondo would continue to occasionally fly runs for Sintilha's budding Galactic Freedom Corps out of Rodia - enjoying the proceeds of the groups efforts in exchange for simply moving a few slaves around.
Ohnaka's tenuous relationship with the Republic and GFC was not reciprocated in the Confederacy, and his base was destroyed by Confederate General Grievous under the order of Dooku.
Meeting on Moraband:
His arrangement with Sintilha Joxia continued until a political dispute led to the GFC's shutdown and a hasty evacuation. Fortunately for Joxia, Ohnaka had a lead on another profitable enterprise and delivered her and her companions to Moraband, where a Sith Tomb full of treasure had recently been cracked open. Unfortunately for the pirate however, the Tomb proved dangerous and as Sintilha and her friends investigated a legion of ancient Sith Wardroids poured forth from the chamber, massacring those treasure hunters who had gathered in the Valley of the Dark Lords, including several members of the Ohnaka Gang.
A Tricky Birth:
In the company of fellow valley survivor Cad Bane, Hondo immediately fled to his wrecked base on nearby Florrum, inadvertantly leading the destructive droid army after him. Fortunately the Two Moon's crew stepped in to aid the pirate, swooping in to plan an operation to destroy the advancing war droids in detail.
It was at the climax of this battle that heavily-pregnant Petrera went into labour, with Hondo assigning himself the role of midwife. Sky Antilles was born in the junk-heap that remained of Hondo's base, with Ohnaka raising the child high above his head and proclaiming; "I shall call him Hondo... Where's the? Ohh! I shall call her Hondora!" Forever sealing Sky's nickname.
Kl'or'slug Exterminators:
Despite the destruction of his base and a brief fracture of his gang, Ohnaka managed to survive the duration of the war.
He was encountered again by the Two Moon's Crew a year after the war ended on Corellia, where he was trying to steal a large cargo freighter from the Coronet City Spaceport. The freighter had also been claimed by the Bombassa Brothers, who had asked Petrera, Gyla and Tesef Sereyne to sneak on board and modify it's transponder frequency. Themselves sneaking on board, Hondo's gang exchanged fire with the crew, before realising who it was they were dealing with.
A negotiation began for the freighter, with Ohnaka realising that Petrera and her companions were on the run and pressing hard, reminding the Zabrak that she had a pretty bounty on her head now. Petrera nevertheless haggled hard and a price was agreed, with the Bombassa brothers paying Hondo 40,000 credits to leave them the freighter, only after Imperial forces were evaded by the timely release of Kl'or'slugs from the Tantive II and Warlock which distracted the Thirteenth Brother and other Imperial forces on alert in the spaceport.
Over the next few years under the Empire, the Ohnaka Gang was forcibly broken up, and the once-great pirate was cast adrift as a small-time smuggler and outlaw.
