Tetrak Fluoryxi (a.k.a. Tetrak Schaar)
Tetrak Schaar was born Tetrak Fluoryxi in the subterranean mining town Fluoryt on X'tal. Growing up, xe felt as if all the adults in xir life--xir caretakers, xir teachers, all of them--already had xir whole life already planned out for xem. A kid as tall and effortlessly strong as xir? Of course xe was going to make a great living in the mines, just as xir caretaker and so many before xem had. Tetrak ended up surprising everyone, however, when xe revealed xe applied for college in Sugilit--a well-off surface city on the other side of the planet--to study literature on a scholarship. Unfortunately for Tetrak, xe soon found xemself in a very lonely situation; the people xe grew up with below the surface resent xir for leaving xem behind, and xir new surface classmates looked down on xem as an inferior charity case. But Tetrak was determined not to let it get to xir, and threw xemself into xir studies.
Things took a turn for the worse, however, during Tetrak's third year. Extensive mining operations in the southern half of the Halogyn continent accidently disturbed a colony of giant crystalline creatures hibernating deep in the planet's crust. Upon awakening, these creatures quickly laid waste to half the continent, including Fluoryt. Shocked and dismayed by xir hometown's destruction, Tetrak fell into a state of depression that lasted for months. Xe didn't snap out of it until the world governments announced a joint effort to fight the rampaging creatures--now dubbed Glazmei by the media--and called for volunteers. Since college students weren't allowed to join and xe didn't want xir education to go to waste, Tetrak pulled xemself out of xir funk in order to graduate and join the fight as soon as possible.
When Tetrak joined the X'tallian Defense Corps (XEKO), it was in the middle of implementing new sonic weapon technology to repel and destroy the Glazmei. Tetrak was part of the first group to test this tech in the field, and xe quickly gained a knack for picking out weak points in the creatures' armor and biology. In xir first foray into battle alone, xe was able to take down three mid-sized Glazmei this way with almost sniper-like accuracy. As the fighting continued, Tetrak gained notoriety among xir comrades for both xir levelheadedness under pressure and xir pinpoint precision with taking down the Glazmei, eventually earning xem the nickname "Tetrak Schaar" (literally "Surgeon Tetrak").
Tetrak continued to fight for three years, eventually taking command of xir unit and transforming it into an elite group with almost no casualties, and was lauded as a hero across the planet. During this time, Tetrak started to develop mixed feelings about xir job. On the one hand, xe hated dealing with Glazmei and knew all too well how dangerous and destructive they could be; on the other hand, xe found an almost perverse enjoyment in the thrill of fighting them. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) xir last fight against a giant Glazmei ended with xem sustaining heavy damage, enough to warrant an honorable discharge from service. By this point, the Glazmei were nowhere near the threat they once were, but even after making a full recovery, Tetrak still found xemself craving that same excitement. Eventually xe decided to take up a career as a Starduster, and while xir days are now spent tracking down the galaxy's most wanted, xe still gets the occasional call to help deal with a rogue Glazmei, and xe can never really bring xemself to say no.
