Lightbearer's Amulets

Lightbearer's Amulets are religious jewelery meant to provide the wearer protection from demons and vampires. There are many different types, ranging from small rings to large necklaces with inner compartments. The amulets are usually the symbol of the Lighbearer, known as the Spiked Sun. The effectivness of these amulets are called into question by researchers of the Vampiric, but these critisisms are often silenced or ignored by the church and it's followers.

Types of Amulet

Simple Symbols

Simple Jewellery
The most common type of amulet are small Spiked Suns, often engraved or inlaid onto a ring or worn on a small chain. These are meant to be small and descreet, and are believed to offer minimal protection. These smaller amulets are mostly worn by the less religious in the church, but it is not uncommon for the most devoted believers to wear one or more of these alongside larger, more protective amulets.

Wooden Amulets

Wooden amulets are the most varied and cheapest type of amulet, and are often homemade. These can range from something as simple as sticks bent and tied into the shape of the Spiked sun, or intricate carvings of Viserinm Herself or her Holy Sword. Some variations of wooden amulets also serve as small wooden daggers in the event of a vampire attack.

Large Silver Necklaces

These amulets are similar to the carved wooden ones, but crafted out of silver. These necklaces are often engraved with holy text or symbols. Nobles and wealthy individuals often have silver amulets with inlaid jewels.

Chambered Amulets

Chambered amulets are a somewhat new invention. They are a variation of the silver necklaces, but with small compartments for garlic cloves or juice. A few of these amulets, like some of the wooden ones, can be used as daggers, acting as a syringe that can inject garlic juice when stabbing a vampire. These amulets are worn mostly by the most superstitious or paranoid of Visellum, but rarely by official members of the church.

Manufacturing process

In the modern day, the amulets are created the same way as any jewelery, often by skilled jewelcrafters. Though it isn't uncommon for poorer individuals to create wooden amulets themselves out of sticks and spare firewood.

History

Lightbearer's Amulets have been around for about as long as the religion itself, originally created in the small communities that lived in Herriland, out of wood, sticks, carved stone, or sometimes metals. After the sky was torn, creating the Fellian Rift, Lightbearer's amulets became much more common, often being manufactured by the Church, given to it's believers as protection from the demons that they believed had entered through the tear.

Lightbearers amulets of all kinds are very common within Visellum. Often seen as standard for followers of the Church of the Lightbearer, and compulsory for religious figures within the Church.
Raw materials & Components
Lightbearer's amulets are often made out of wood or silver. Fancier, expensive silver amulets are often plated with some gold. Amulets created by the church or legitimate jewelcrafters will often use materials "blessed" by priests from the Church, a this is believed to amplify the affect of the amulet.

I love that there's a whole range depending on how rich or poor you are, or if you make them yourself. Love the idea of chambered amulets too. That's a fun little detail.
