Topitzin

Basic Information

Anatomy

Topitzin are a series of genetically engineered humanoids bearing numerous outwardly conflicting traits common to mammals, reptiles and avians. They all possess the same basic humanoid body format: two arms, two legs and bipedal stance. Female members develop functional mammalian-type breasts during puberty. Other examples of sexual dimorphism will vary dependent upon the originating genome.
  • The Acaloa will vary dramatically in size, but they all have a powerful jaw. Though many of the originating species occasionally have underdeveloped arms for their size, the hybridization has provided them with fully functional humanoid limbs. Females are often significantly larger than their male counterparts
  • Piztic had been hybridized from Ankylosaurs and Nodosaurs, and they have retained the thick armor and spikes.
  • Xumutl sport elaborate cranial crests, which will vary in size and coloration between family groups and between genders.
  • Toloa were developed from the myriad species of Ceratopsians. They all possess a powerful beak and broad bony frill across the back of their head. Some even retail the horns of their primordial predecessors, and males will often have bright color across their frills

Genetics and Reproduction

All four primary varieties of Topitzin are genetically engineered from a base Human stock and spliced with the DNA from a family of Dinosaur. Each of these are genetically isolated from each other preventing cross-breeding. In spite of the outwardly human body form all Topitzin are born from a clutch of eggs.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The sensory abilities of Topitzin vary widely, dependent upon the Saurian species utilized in the initial hybridization.
  • Theropod-derived Acaloa have sharp senses of smell and exceptional eyesight.
  • The armor-backed Pitztic are typically nearsighted, however the genetic engineering process improved their sense of smell to a near-supernatural extent.
  • Xumutl have a balanced set of sensory capabilities. Human-equivalent in daylight, low-light and darkvision, and can feel the movements of things close to them which they cannot see.
  • Toloa have markedly strong hearing, making up for their poor eyesight and fairly average sense of smell.
The Topitzin were engineered to be durable, but owing to their amalgamated nature they find social mores confusing.

Size and Type

Topitzin are Medium Monstrous Humanoids. Base speed is 30 ft., except for the Piztic which move at 20 ft.

Engineered Variation

There are currently four known varieties of Topitzin:
  • Acaloa are the more muscular of their kin (+2 Str)
  • Piztic may appear dull in appearance, but they often prove the more intelligent (+2 Int)
  • Xumutl are exceptionally spritly and quick to react. (+2 Dex)
  • Toloa are often found in administrative rolls owing to their prudence and foresight (+2 Wis)

Senses

All Topitzin have darkvision 60 ft.
  • Acaloa have Blindsense (scent) at a range of 30 ft, and low light vision
  • Piztic have Blindsense (scent) at a range of 60 ft. However, they incur an -1 penalty on all ranged attacks beyond 60 ft.
  • Xumutl see exceptionally well in all conditions, and even feel the movement of those they cannot see. They have low-light vision and blindsense (vibration) 30 ft.
  • Toloa have highly specialized hearing (Blindsense (hearing) 60 ft.) however they take a -1 penalty on all ranged attacks beyond 60 ft due to their dull vision.

Primitive Weaponry

It is common among Topitzin to possess a natural attack, though the specific attack can vary from one bloodline to the next. This may manifest as claws, a powerful beak, strong jaws, a cluster of horns or muscular tail. The character is always considered armed. They can deal 1d4 lethal damage (any two Bludgeoning, Piercing or Slashing). They also gain a unique Weapon Specialization with their natural weapons at 3rd level, allowing them to add 1-1/2 × their character level to their damage rolls for their natural weapons (instead of just adding their character level, as usual).

Thick Hide

All Topitzin gain a +1 bonus to KAC due to a heavily scaled hide. Piztic gain a +3 bonus to KAC.

Dichotomous Culture

Created in large part by the unusual combination of socially ingrained treachery and casual sensationalism, nearly all Topitzin are natural liars and exemplary showmen. Gain a +2 bonus on all Bluff checks and Charisma-based Profession checks.
