Slivers

Slivers are creatures that share a hive mind, which allows them to share their abilities with other nearby slivers. The exact range of how far the hive mind reaches depends on the numbers of slivers gathered the area plus the relative power of the local Hive Overlord or Queen. This species has many evolutionary traits and abilities allowing them to quickly adapt to whatever environment they find themselves in except currently in the empty vacuum of space.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The original Slivers were depicted with an armored vertebrate body, a long, bifurcated whip-like tail, one arm with a single talon for a hand, and a head with an armored crest. Variations on this appearance existed in accordance with the abilities each has to offer to the hive. An evolved form has humanoid features and are often able to blend into the societies of other species, acting as advance scouts and often seek to weaken the other species with plots of causing major infighting among them.

Genetics and Reproduction

Slivers seem to reproduce in a several ways: by means of a hive Queen in much of the same method as ants or bees, or if a single sliver is found alone it will mutate over time naturally into a Queen and thus lay eggs by the the hundreds.

Growth Rate & Stages

From the moment a Sliver egg is produced by a Queen, it rapidly develops to hatching within a few days, eggs don't have a hard shell like that of birds but instead are more like membrane shells that adapt the sliver to whatever the environment it is born into. Slivers hatchlings reach full adulthood in hours but are still deadly and capable even as newborns.

Ecology and Habitats

Slivers are apex predictors, currently the only environment they are unable to with stand are vacuum like voids such as outer space. They are seen as worse than locusts and even more scary than dragons.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Slivers can consume anything organic and several inorganic materials and creatures.

Biological Cycle

After a hatchling is born and reaches adulthood, the sliver does not age, if no means of food exists for it will then hibernate for years at a time, long enough for any other species to repopulate in the environment it finds itself in.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Hive-minded, often with a Queen or Overlord leading them in an order fashion, however some will fuse together no "leader" exists, forming what has been referred to as a Sliver Legion. These fusion based mutations are are even more deadly then Overlords or Queens they release a special pheromone that causes other slivers to grow stronger and go into frenzies.
