Bleak Feather

The Bleak Feather is a disease that occurs only in Tasinara in their old age. Typically during the last few years of their life and affects their feathers. While only a third of the population that can be afflicted by this disease. While no very common, people experience this quite frequently and is a sign of old age. Family members being to take care of them and start the funeral rites of their people. By this point their body no longer goes into a changes. There are some "miracle" in the market, but only genetic therapy can prevent the disease from occurring.

Causes

During the final stages of life, the organ which produces the color and oils in the feathers suddenly breaks down. This happens only in specific mutations of their genetics. In this mutation the organ fails to produce a clean form of the oil and will clog the passages. When this happens the organ will begin to fail. There is no symptoms of when this occurs. Once it fails, the organ dies and beginning the disease.

Symptoms

When the oils are stopped being produces, the feathers begin to lose their shine and ability to maintain their shape. This gives them a unkempt look as they begin to fall apart. Without the feathers to protect the body it is easy for parasites and diseases to be contracted.

Treatment

Genetic therapy is the only known treatment for the disease. The clinics are located on the capital planet and in the planets of the United Democratic States. As a result, many never get the treatment due to cost and availability.
