Founder's Day
History
The town of Elysium Valley was founded in the year 1920 by a group of people who were exploring the Rocky Mountains. It took time to get the initial permits, but the town has continued to grow in size ever since.
Participants
About fifteen or so years ago a decision was made to let different groups in the Valley take charge of the Founder’s Day fireworks. It’s good advertising for the ones doing it but it can be a bit of a mixed bag as far as results go. Some put on really fantastic shows, but others are a bit...lackluster.
Observance
Every year on July 29th the town celebrates Founder's Day. It started with a simple town wide picnic, a speech from the Mayor, and a few games. As the town grew more things were added to the festivities: citizen of the year, parades, contests, and food stands. In 1983 the town began adding fireworks displays.
Over time the festivities have grown larger. These days its a tree day festival that begins on July 26th.
