You are alone in your office, computer screens blinking and beeping around you. Supposedly they are scanning for threats, an occurrence that has never happened in the 20 years you have worked this job, or ever actually. The desk next to you is empty, your colleague left to go grab some food from the shop. They've left their computer open; it's running some kind of first-person video game. Their desk and yours are strewn with food wrappers and drinks cans, outside you can hear the sound of drunks fighting on the street. It's just another day at the office...

Manpower
The Earth Defence Guard is one of the smallest military divisions on Earth. In the early 3000s, politicians and scientists theorized the possibility of an attack from space. Because of this, the Earth Defence Guard was formed and funding was given for the employment of 20 full-time staff members based in the Americas.
When space travel was re-legalised, the staffing funding was increased to 50 staff members, and the division was also given two military-grade Spaceships. These ships have not been upgraded since.

Spaceships
The Earth Defence Guard was given two spaceships when the spaceflight ban was repealed. These were suggested to be use for reconnaissance missions in the space surrounding earth and also as a first line of defence. These however have never been upgraded and are now out of date compare to current technology standards.Computers
Most funding given to the Earth Defence Guard is spent on technology. They work with a range of sensors, trackers and software for observing the area of space outside of the earth's atmosphere. This means that computer based qualifications are necessary to work for this division. When you applied for this job, they didn't ask you very much: can you keep a secret, do you know how to use a computer? They sat you down and showed you how the system worked and then they left you alone. Sat in an office, day after day after day... The folks who fly the ships got more training, they get to go out on missions for weeks at a time; making sure there's no enemies in our solar system or something. Either way, they definitely got the better job. They get payed more too...
