Purpose / Function

The international library began as a collection of archives that were permanently moved to web storage. However, the curators realised that alongside history, the was also a market for books and film as well. This brought about the creation of the international library, an online space that can be accessed from anywhere in the world and provides books and films for free to anyone who wants them.

History

A Rocky Start

Initially, the International library had to compete with media giants; the companies that had a monopoly on books and film in the digital space. However, as time went on, more and more people were attracted to the romantic idea of a library, even if it no longer had physical form.
As media became digital, in-person libraries became a thing of the past. Slowly being replaced with digital services that charged for the entertainment they provided. Until the Internationall Library came along...

The Spark of an Idea

The International library was formed by a group of archivists who missed the joy that physical llibraries gave to the public. Their goal was to replicate this within digital space while retaining the feelings associated with the original buildings.

The International Library is a digital space that mimics the feeling of being in a real building and connecting with people in real time. It reintroduces people to the joy of reading, and the excitement of cinema through an accessible online space. The library ha receive many positive reviews since its opening.
