Energy

The element or aspect of a spell refers to the type of magical energy being used, such as fire, water, air, earth, shadow, or light.   The balance of a spell refers to the balance between positive and negative energy, and how it is utilized in the spell.   Intensity refers to the amount of power put into the spell. The more power put into a spell the greater the effect, but also the greater the damage of unintended consequences.   The combination of Element, Balance, and Intensity of an Energy produces a unique effect. Effects are also changed based on how the energy is applied by the caster.

Spellcasting

The Mechanism of a Spell consists of the Source, Destination, and Control.   The source of a spell refers to where the magical energy is coming from, whether it be from the caster, a magical object, or the environment around them. This can greatly impact the amount of energy available for the spell, as well as the difficulty of obtaining it.   The destination of a spell refers to where the spell is directed or where its effects will be felt. This could be a specific person, object or location. The choice of destination can greatly impact the potential outcome and effectiveness of a spell.   The control is the actual way that the spell is applied. Some examples would be touch spells, ranged spells, or areas of effect. Control is achieved by spellcasters through a variety of methods but all require some degree of willpower.
