The Maiden's Chest

The Maiden's Chest is a song sung by Rumpians, Sailors, and very especially Rumpian Sailors. It is a song about the woes of being at sea and the delights of warm companionship when it is about.

Verse 1:
Oh, we're sailors bold on the open sea,
With the wind in our sails and the waves so free,
We sing our shanty, so come gather 'round,
We'll tell you a tale that's a bit unsound.
  Chorus:
Heave-ho, me hearties, aye, that's the best,
We're searchin' for treasure in the maiden's chest,
In the moonlight's glow, we'll put love to the test,
Oh, it's a sailor's life that we love the best!
  Verse 2:
We sailed into port, a fair maiden fair,
With a glint in her eye and wind-tousled hair,
She said, "Come aboard, lads, for a jolly ride,"
But little did we know, she'd be our guide.
  Chorus:
Heave-ho, me hearties, aye, that's the best,
We're searchin' for treasure in the maiden's chest,
In the moonlight's glow, we'll put love to the test,
Oh, it's a sailor's life that we love the best!
  Verse 3:
We searched high and low, oh, we searched all day,
For the hidden treasure that was said to lay,
In the heart of the ship, where secrets reside,
With a wink and a nod, we were in for a ride.
  Chorus:
Heave-ho, me hearties, aye, that's the best,
We're searchin' for treasure in the maiden's chest,
In the moonlight's glow, we'll put love to the test,
Oh, it's a sailor's life that we love the best!
  Verse 4:
Now the night's grown dark, and the stars shine bright,
We'll keep singin' this shanty through the long night,
So come join our crew, in this tale of jest,
For it's all in good fun, in the maiden's chest!
  Chorus:
Heave-ho, me hearties, aye, that's the best,
We're searchin' for treasure in the maiden's chest,
In the moonlight's glow, we'll put love to the test,
Oh, it's a sailor's life that we love the best!
