Personal history

Clayton Whitehead was born to Cleveland and Lelia Whitehead in Albany, New York. Cleveland Whitehead was a businessman who ran the Whitehead Engineering Company, which created steam trains for railroads all over America. When Clayton was in his early 20s, his father retired, handing the company reins to Clayton.
At 28, Clayton moved to the newly founded town of Goldstand, Colorado, where he relocated the headquarters of the Whitehead Engineering Company. While there, he met Esther Massy, a young woman whose parents owned a ranch a little ways out of Goldstand. He married Esther a year later. A few months after his marriage, his mother died, with his father following a year and a half later.
Clayton and Esther moved into the Massy's house roughly four years after their marriage, when the Massy's moved to the East Coast to live closer to their sons. Over the next seven years, Esther would bear Clayton six children. In 1890, a fever killed Esther and four of the Whitehead children. In January of 1892, Clayton's last two children, Blanche and Sophie, were killed in a train crash. Blanche died on impact, but Sophie survived for a few months before passing from her injuries.
Consumed by his grief, Clayton began a search for an artifact or ability that would allow him to bring his family back. However, the combined bills from Sophie's injuries and the failed treatments of the rest of the family drained Clayton's money. He used a good deal of the remainder to purchase the Chronos Ruby to force local landowners to give him their property, which he planned to sell.
